Emails Part of Elektra’s Data Breach for Yale-New Haven Hospital

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – Yale-New Haven Health (YNHH) announced the impact of a data breach involving Elekta on Friday afternoon.

Elekta is a software company that the hospital has long used for data storage for the healthcare system. YNHH is one of many organizations affected by the Elekta breach.

“Unfortunately, the occurrence and sophistication of cybercrime has increased dramatically in recent years. This particular breach was part of a global security incident that affected at least 40 of Elekta’s healthcare clients,” said Yale-New Haven Health in a written statement.

Yale-New Haven Health was first notified of the violation in April. Health officials say Elekta suffered a breach of its systems between April 2 and April 20, 2021.

Elekta again informed YNHH on May 26 of access to its patients’ data. YNHH officials said they conducted a thorough internal investigation to determine what information was potentially exposed and who was affected by the breach.

“Certain demographic information such as names, addresses, phone numbers, emails, social security numbers, places of treatment and preferred languages ​​have been included in Elekta databases linked to the incident,” officials said. of the YNHH in a written statement. “There is also a small subset of the population where financial information may have been exposed. Everyone involved will be notified by mail and those whose financial information may have been exposed will be offered a free credit monitoring service. As this cyberattack was on Elekta’s system, the attackers never, at any time, had access to Yale-New Haven Health’s electronic medical record system. “

YNHH added, “Yale New Haven Health really regrets any inconvenience this has caused. As a leading healthcare provider, we strive to show respect to patients and our community and to always protect this information.
