Highly Commendable 13th Amendment Power Deal: AJK PM

MIRPUR (AJK): Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan has said that the administrative and financial powers acquired by the government of Azad and Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) through the 13th amendment of the AJK Constitution of 1974 were very commendable.

He made the remarks while addressing a delegation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of the Kashmir Council led by Sardar Siyab Khalid Khan who visited him on Thursday at the Jammu- Kashmir in the federal metropolis.

Kashmir Council members Shujaat Rathore, Mir Younis and Sardar Abdul Razaq Khan were present at the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, the Tanveer Illayas said that the constitutional amendments made over the past two years have given financial autonomy to the state. He said, however, that these changes could not be implemented overnight. He said that different institutions were still engaged to make these amendments more effective.

Regarding funds for Kashmir Council members, the Prime Minister said there was no doubt that KC members should receive development funds. He said more progress on the issue would be made in the coming days.

On this occasion, the veteran legislator, Sardar Siyab Khalid declared that the administrative and financial autonomy obtained by the government following the thirteenth amendment was worthy of praise. He said it was a long-standing request from the people of Azad Kashmir.

He said financial autonomy was the inalienable right of the government of Azad Kashmir.

He lamented that no funds were allocated to the Kashmir council members. “There are no funds from which they can help an orphan, a widow or someone in need or provide medicine to a deserving patient,” he said.

He said it was imperative that reasonable funds be allocated to members of the Kashmir Council. The Prime Minister, on this occasion, assured the members of the Council of his unreserved support and the allocation of adequate funds.
