Barely two years after its launch, Moneycontrol Pro, the premium offer of the economic information site Moneycontrol, is on the list of the world’s top 20 providers of digital news subscriptions.
According to a report by the International Federation of Periodical Publishers, Moneycontrol Pro with 330,000 subscribers is the only Indian publisher to feature in the top 20 and ranks third in Asia.
Ravi Krishnan, deputy editor of Moneycontrol.com, believes there is a demand for financial information today and Moneycontrol Pro aims to fill this gap.
âThe numbers speak for themselves. Despite the Covid outbreak last year, we have seen a record number of Demat accounts added and a record number of investors entering the markets and starting investments / negotiations. of them are millennials. All of these people would need information ranging from very simple things like how to open a Demat account to complex things like what type of trading strategy they should use. Industry Potential financial reporting is huge and we aim to fill that gap, âhe said.
Sharing his thoughts on the standings, Krishnan said: âThis is good news for us and a proud moment. We’re glad we got this type of validation about two years after launch. But ultimately, it is thanks to our subscribers who have stayed the course with us and have continued to give us their feedback on what they expect. “
Moneycontrol Pro is a platform for investors and provides investment solutions. Krishnan attributes the success of the premium app to their continued focus on the investor.
âAt Moneycontrol Pro, we’ve always put the investor first, whether it’s redesigning our user interface or improving the user experience. The thinking is always in terms of what kind of content our followers will want, how we can help people on their wealth building journey, what inputs we can provide them, how we can get rid of the clutter. We are all bombarded with so much information every day and investors are no different. So we’ve created something that will make their lives easier and give them access to information. We also continued to add functionality. The Pro that we launched is very different from what you see now and it will continue to evolve, âhe said.
The app provides subscribers with an ad-free experience with personalized news, organized market data, news, analysis and trends. They also have special sections for investing ideas, exclusive trading recommendations, independent stock analysis, and even lessons from successful investors.
Content is a key differentiator because it provides subscribers with information that is not available anywhere else.
Krishnan said, âIt’s a ruthless focus on investors and what they want. We talked to people to figure out what kind of coverage they would expect. The backbone of Moneycontrol Pro is our research team. This is an independent internal research team that, among other things, examines stocks that no major brokerage or selling brokerage firm is doing. It is therefore very difficult to find information or analysis on some of these stocks outside of Moneycontrol. “
With markets interconnected these days, Moneycontrol Pro has also entered into an exclusive editorial content partnership with the Financial Times to provide its subscribers with a global perspective. âIt makes sense for them to understand what’s going on in the world and I think FT is best in class when it comes to global markets. So we provide curated content from FT, âhe said.
Apart from that, they have a learning section on the app, to help people do their own analysis of different industries, and news commentary, to provide information. Over the past year, they have launched monthly webinars called MC Pro Masters Virtual which help users gain a broader perspective on important events that impact their investments.
âAll of these features help people build wealth and their investment journey. We try to answer the questions that investors may ask themselves, âhe added.
Moneycontrol Pro offers its subscribers a completely ad-free experience and its revenue comes entirely from subscriptions. Krishnan said subscribers are increasingly opening up to paying for quality content.
âThe good news is that over the past 12 months or so, many organizations have put their content behind the paywall. And so, people are also more and more open to paying for their content. However, the content should be top notch. At Moneycontrol Pro, we strive to stay one step ahead of the rest and anticipate what our readers would want and deliver this type of content, âhe said.
